Dear Upper Moreland Community,
I recognize that some families across the district have experienced longer than normal delays with transportation to and from school. This is due to a shortage of bus drivers and the need to adjust driver schedules to safely transport students. The shortage of school bus drivers is happening in most districts in our region.
The District is actively working to fill our vacant positions. We have several recently hired drivers progressing through the hiring process. Becoming a school bus driver requires substantial classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, testing, CDL certification, and onboarding. This process takes several weeks and cannot be shortened at the expense of student safety. Safe transportation of our students remains our highest priority.
When delays occur, we make every effort to communicate with affected families as promptly as possible through Here Comes the Bus. Because driver absences and resulting route changes can occur with little notice, advance communication may not always be possible, but we share information as soon as it becomes available.

I understand that transportation delays can create significant inconveniences for families and disrupt established routines.
