Wellness at UMTSD

Upper Moreland Township School District recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to students’ physical well-being, growth, development, and readiness to learn.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Upper Moreland Township School District Wellness Committee is to promote lifelong health, well being and the ability to learn by supporting the whole child:  physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially in a healthy school environment.

Background

Effective July 1, 2006, the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, PL 108-265, mandated that each local educational agency operating a school meal program shall establish a local school wellness policy. Guidelines include goals for nutrition education, physical activity, other school-based activities, and guidelines for food available during the school day. In a healthy school environment, students will learn about developing positive nutritional and lifestyle habits.
