Belonging and Access for Student Success

To help our students thrive both in school and as contributing citizens after graduation, they need to feel a sense of belonging at school, and they need access to the instruction, resources, relationships and opportunities necessary for their success.

FOCUS on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support across all schools and grade levels to meet the academic, behavioral, and emotional needs of all students.

  • Analyze core instructional time, inclusive of content, time, and practices, to ensure all learners successfully access grade-level standards.

  • Analyze and develop increased tiered interventions and supports for academics and behavioral needs.

  • Expand opportunities for enrichment and remediation time across all buildings.

  • Strengthen programming and support to ensure the mental and behavioral health needs of our students are being met.

DEVELOP and implement a comprehensive talent management strategy that recruits and retains staff committed to and capable of fostering equitable outcomes for all students while advancing Upper Moreland’s commitment to equity and Future Ready competencies.

  • Expand and cultivate spaces and opportunities to foster a sense of belonging for staff, including but not limited to launching affinity groups and collecting actionable data through implementing focus groups, conducting surveys, performing stay interviews, and designing mentorship programs.

  • Broaden recruitment strategies to extend outreach to potential employees, including but not limited to forging partnerships with diverse colleges and universities, creating pathways for internal staff to advance in new positions, engaging technical institutes and/or trade organizations, and leveraging social media outreach.

  • Transform hiring practices to ensure they embody inclusivity and align with the District’s focus on equity and future-ready competencies, including equipping diverse interview panelists with cultural responsiveness training, crafting equity-focused interview processes, implementing strategies to analyze strengths and weaknesses of the hiring process, and instituting changes to identify inequities.

STRENGTHEN and increase a sense of belonging and connection between the school community and families to support student success in school.

  • Research existing opportunities (e.g., organizations, activities) which provide support and resources to new families in the community and explore ways to partner with those opportunities to integrate the school as a partner in welcoming families, including but not limited to sharing school resources available, having school liaison join meetings, inviting groups to tour the schools and meet staff.

  • Develop a “Welcome to Upper Moreland” plan for all new families inclusive of helpful resources, tours of schools, and personal connections with various school-related organizations, including but not limited to, student councils, honor societies, diversity clubs, and HSAs.

  • Provide opportunities for school-related organizations to learn about the diverse backgrounds and experiences of families in the community to foster respect and understanding, including but not limited to, outside presenters, student presentations or community conversations.
