On Tuesday, April 7, Upper Moreland Township School District proudly celebrated the
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting
of
BEARS Barista
at the UMTSD Administration Building.
The event brought together UMTSD administration & staff, School Board members, students, parents, representatives from the Upper Moreland Police Department and Upper Moreland Township, as well as other community members, all coming together to celebrate this exciting new opportunity for our students.
BEARS Barista is part of our Transition Program, which moved to the Administration Building at the beginning of this school year. This fully operational café is run by students ages 18-21 who are building real-world skills that support independence, employment, & community engagement.
BEARS stands for Building Employability, Academics, & Real World Skills
, and the program focuses on:
• Functional Academics
• Vocational & Job Readiness Skills
• Independent Living Skills
• Community-Based Instruction
• Recreation & Leisure Skills
• Supported Employment Opportunities
Students have been involved in every step of bringing BEARS Barista to life, from designing the logo and creating the menu to shopping for supplies, preparing food and beverages, running the register, and creating handcrafted items for the gift shop.
We’re excited to share that
BEARS Barista is now open to the community!
