Dear UMMS Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2026–27 school year at UMMS! I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the year ahead. Our middle school team is excited to welcome our students back for another year of learning, growth, connection, and school spirit.
Our first day of school is Monday, August 31. Before the first day, we invite all 6th Grade students and families to join us for 6th Grade Orientation on Tuesday, August 25, from 6:00–7:30 PM. Doors will open at 5:45 PM. Please see below for additional orientation information.
As we begin the new school year, we are continuing the practices and initiatives that make UMMS a welcoming, supportive, and successful place for every student. We are also introducing updates designed to strengthen student safety, improve daily routines, and help students feel confident and prepared. Academic success, positive behavior, belonging, and providing the right support for each student remain at the heart of our work. Families will hear more about these initiatives throughout the year as we continue building a strong and supportive school community.
Families will notice some updates to morning arrival procedures, including designated entrances for bus riders, car riders, walkers, and bikers. Students will begin each day by reporting directly to homeroom, with breakfast available along the way through grade-level breakfast carts. We are also pleased to continue offering free breakfast to all students throughout the 2026–27 school year.
We are especially excited to welcome our 6th Grade Class of 2033! Our transition activities and first-day experiences are designed to help students feel comfortable in their new school, learn routines, connect with staff and peers, and begin the year with confidence. Our 7th and 8th Grade students will also play an important role in creating a positive and welcoming school community.
At UMMS, our focus remains on student safety, belonging, academic growth, and meaningful relationships. We believe that when students feel known, supported, and connected to their school, they are better positioned to learn and thrive. We look forward to partnering with our families and working together to make this a successful year for every student.
Thank you for your continued support of UMMS. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve your children and are excited about all that the 2026–27 school year has in store.
We can't wait to welcome you back, UMMS! We are ready for a great year!
Warmly,
Daneyelle Jordan
UMMS Principal
