UMMS Academic Award Criteria
Honor Roll Criteria
Upper Moreland Middle School celebrates academic achievement and believes students who perform exceptionally well with integrity should be recognized for their hard work. Students have the opportunity to earn honor roll status every trimester. There are two classifications of honor roll:
Distinguished Honor Roll

Honor Roll
Awarded to those students who have earned report card grades of A and no more than 1 B, as well as O and no more than 1 S.
8th Grade Academic Awards
Presidential Award for Academic Excellence - Awarded to those grade 8 students who have earned a GPA of 90% or higher in 6th and 7th grade, as well as Distinguished Honor Roll in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 of 8th grade.
Academic Achievement Award - Awarded to those grade 8 students who have earned Distinguished Honor Roll in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 of 8th grade.
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
Grade 7 and 8 students who earned Distinguished Honor Roll for all three trimesters during the previous school year are invited to apply to NJHS in September of each school year.
Applicants are scored on the following NJHS pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
A faculty committee reviews, scores, and recommends membership to those students who have demonstrated the highest level of achievement in all five pillars as demonstrated through co-curricular and community leadership, teacher recommendations, and student application essays.
