🌟 Introducing our January Rotary Club Student of the Month, Abigale Bilotta!
Abby's resilience and compassion shine through her remarkable initiatives, including the ChrisSanthemum Project benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and her work with the Peyton Heart Project for suicide and mental health awareness.
Motivated by personal loss, Abby wanted to turn her grief into something that would make a difference. Abigale started planning the ChrisSanthemum project at 12 years old, hosted the first event at 13 years old, and raised almost $50,000 since its inception. Her leadership extends to various other roles, including fundraising chairperson for the Peyton Heart Project and a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's leadership team member.
Abby's aspirations reflect her creativity and ambition - she plans to attend the Douglas Education Center and participate in the Tom Savini's Special Makeup Effects Program after graduation. Congratulations, Abby, on this well-deserved honor! 🌟👏

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, UMMS students in 6th-grade literacy classes made Valentine's Day cards for families supported by the Breathing Room Foundation as part of their "Share the Love" program. The Breathing Room provides care and support for families dealing with cancer; their mission is to offer families a little "breathing room" during challenging times. #UMProud #MLKDay #CommunityService

Lucky Sticker Day is coming to UMPS & UMIS! Starting this week and running through March, we're adding extra fun to our students' morning routine. Alternating each week between the Primary and Intermediate Schools, one lucky breakfast bag will sport a special purple star sticker. If your student finds the sticker, they win a prize! ⭐
This initiative is part of the Governor's School Breakfast Challenge, encouraging students to kick start their day with a balanced breakfast. We are #UMProud to offer all our students free, nutritious breakfast options, helping them fuel up for a day of learning.

Each year, the Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement hosts an essay competition for 4th & 5th-grade students enrolled in public, private, parochial school, or home study programs across the Commonwealth. This year, over 250 essay applications were submitted, and an essay written jointly by two students from Mrs. Gilman's 5th-grade class was selected as a finalist. The topic of the essay was for students to explain the First Amendment and its importance to Americans and indicate which freedom they believe was most important and why.
Eleven schools were invited to present their essays as finalists at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Yesterday, Mrs. Gilman's class presented their essay through an interactive commercial and answered questions about the First Amendment from the panel of judges. Afterward, Mrs. Gilman's class toured the Constitution Center Museum and viewed an interactive theater production about the history of the United States.
The judges from the Rendell Center awarded Mrs. Gilman's class 3rd place, winning $500 to enhance civics education at the Intermediate School. Congratulations to Mrs. Gilman's class for an excellent job and outstanding performance! You have made our school and district #UMProud! 👏

Students worked in group stations and explored topics such as MLK's early life, civil rights contributions, nonviolent protest methods, National Day of Service history, & service opportunities in our UM community. 📢 Reminder: Two Hour Delay Tomorrow
The winter storm impacting our community may cause flooding, road closures and possible power outages tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10th.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Upper Moreland schools and offices will open two hours late on Wednesday, January 10th. Because of the anticipated flooding and possible road closures, we want to keep teen drivers and our buses off of the roads in our community until daylight.
⭐ Upper Moreland High School will open for students at 9:30am.
⭐ Upper Moreland Middle School will open for students at 9:35am.
⭐ Upper Moreland Primary and Intermediate will open for students at 10:20am.
⭐ The YMCA will communicate specific details about before school care.
We will continue to evaluate conditions and communicate with the Upper Moreland Police and Fire Departments throughout the duration of this storm to be responsive to its impact.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this storm.
