Yesterday, students & staff across our schools honored Patriot Day by wearing red, white, & blue and joining together in a moment of silence. Throughout the day, students reflected on bravery, kindness, & resilience.

⭐ @ UMPS & UMIS, students created flags and crafts to take home. First graders discussed what it means to be brave & kind, learning that not all heroes wear capes, and colored American flag hearts. Fourth graders read ‘The Man with the Red Bandana’, the story of 9/11 hero Welles Crowther, & then wrote thank-you notes to local community heroes.

⭐ @ UMMS, students paused to remember the 2001 attacks, reflecting on the lives lost as well as the unity and courage shown in the days that followed.

⭐ @ UMHS, students watched ‘Boatlift: An Untold Tale of 9/11 Resilience’ and discussed the strength & resilience demonstrated by everyday people during that time.

Grace McMackin, a melittologist (a bee expert! 🐝) from Bryn Athyn College, visited our sixth graders to share her monthly bee sampling from the rain gardens. Students got a close-up look at the diverse bee species she collected over 24 hours & explored an insect collection. UMMS is proud to participate in the Garden Buzz research project, in partnership with Bryn Athyn College & the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust (PERT). 🌼🪲 #UMProud

First-grade students recently visited the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust for a day of hands-on learning in nature! 🌿 They started with a Story Stroll along a trail, reading "Over and Under the Pond" while walking near the pond and woods. After the hike, students planted seeds in the greenhouse that would later be moved to the Pennypack Preserve. They also participated in a scavenger hunt in the learning garden to find six local bird species and spotted wildlife like hummingbirds, turkeys, toads, & deer. #UMProud

Mr. Latini’s 2nd grade class at UMPS wrapped up the year with their annual Poetry Café! 🌷 During National Poetry Month in April, students explored five types of poetry & practiced expressing their ideas in creative ways. They shared their original poems with families in a relaxed, café-style classroom setting. The event also included a student performance for their loved ones, & a slideshow of special memories from the school year. It was a great way to celebrate their hard work and growth! #UMProud
