Congratulations to Ms. Baron's 1st-grade class for winning the global reading competition and earning the title "2024 All-Pro Reader Team"! The competition, organized by the Share the Magic Foundation, was called READBowl 2024: The World Championship of Reading. It required Ms. Baron's students to read & log their minutes over the four weeks leading up to the Super Bowl.
As a reward for their achievement, UMPS was visited by NFL Super Bowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell - author & Founder/CEO of the Share the Magic Foundation. This afternoon, Malcolm led a Reading Rally where students participated in a high-energy, pep rally-style assembly that included a magic show & read-along. At the Reading Rally, each student received a free copy of his book, "My Very Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World."
Malcolm's mission is to inspire young people to read & to provide motivation that reading is the key to achieving one's goals. A BIG thank you to the Share the Magic Foundation, Booster, & the UM Elementary HSA for making this event possible!

We're excited to announce the opening of a Little Library at UMMS! 📚 Thanks to the hard work of Talitha Lovelady from Mrs. Hanssen's 6th-grade Gifted Seminar, this wonderful addition to our Kindness Rocks garden is now available for students to enjoy.
The Little Library was Talitha's passion project and was generously supported by a $1,000 grant from the Middle School HSA. Made out of recycled milk jugs, the library is not only environmentally friendly, but it's also durable & long-lasting. During the ceremony, Talitha & her classmates stocked the library with a variety of books, from Elementary level to Young Adult, all stamped with a personalized design.
Congratulations to Talitha & everyone involved in making this project a reality! 🎉 Thank you for enriching our school community!

We had an incredible day at the Special Olympics yesterday! 🏅 Our UM athletes represented us proudly as we joined 11 other school districts at Hatboro-Horsham for a day filled with running, jumping, & throwing events. Before the games, we held a clap-out in all our schools so students could cheer the athletes on as they headed to the competition.
Special Olympics is a highlight of our year, and we're so proud of all the students who participated! 🌟 Thank you to those who helped to prepare our students for this special day and to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, & family friends who came out to cheer for our athletes.

This month, Todd Scheuren's physics students at UMHS took a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure! Students experienced force, acceleration, momentum, and energy firsthand by collecting data on several rides at the theme park. Once they returned to class, they analyzed and calculated the forces, accelerations, momentum, and energies they had studied throughout the school year. Kingda Ka, for example, propels them at approximately 3Gs of acceleration from 0 to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds! 🤯
Experiencing, measuring, and calculating the extremes of the ride gives students experiential knowledge that adds to their classroom learning. The trip is a terrific way for students to culminate their experience in College Preparatory Physics, Honors Physics, or AP Physics C courses and prepare for the final exam.
