Our Primary School was buzzing with activity last month! 🏫✨ 🌟 Our Kindergarteners learned how to find their classrooms & navigate the school at their Orientation last week. They participated in a fun scavenger hunt to discover important locations like the cafeteria, art room, & gymnasium. They even hopped on a school bus to learn all about bus safety! Teachers, school staff, and community sports & activity groups were also on hand to chat with families about all they have to offer. 🌟 Grades 1 & 2 AND New Students to the District visited UMPS and had a great time meeting with our Principals, touring the building, & getting all their questions answered. Special thanks to the HSA for providing our kiddos with new class shirts & popsicles!

Last week, UMMS welcomed incoming 6th-graders during their Orientation Day! 🎉 🌟 New 6th-graders met with current 7th & 8th-grade student council members who shared helpful insights about life at middle school. Student leaders covered topics generated by students & families from last year’s 5th-grade visitation & throughout the summer. 📅 Students reviewed their schedules, toured the building, & visited their classrooms. At the end of the tour, they received a Welcome 6th Grade BEAR Pride T-shirt 🐻💜 (BEAR = Belong, Empathy, Achieve, Resiliency) 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 While the students were exploring, families met with the principal for a presentation about the transition to middle school. The Montgomery County Detective’s Office also provided valuable information on the safe and responsible use of social media. For more details, click here: https://secure.smore.com/n/wbhzm

THANK YOU to the UMMS HSA for their generous gift to our Middle School athletic department—a golf cart! This new addition will help our team navigate the 23 acres of fields on the Middle School grounds, ensuring equipment is quickly transported so that games and practices are set up on time. Sophia, a Junior at UMHS, organized an incredible Summer Olympics event for students aged 5-21 in the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The day was full of fun as we celebrated everyone's abilities! The event kicked off at the Olympic Museum, where students learned all about the history of the Games. Next was a Pass the Torch relay race, where students demonstrated teamwork & speed. Adapted sports like seated tennis allowed everyone to compete - similar to Wheelchair Tennis in the Paralympics. Students cheered as classmates tried their hand at the long jump & shot put. For the art lovers, there was the option to create Olympics-themed paintings & participate in artistic gymnastics. It was a day all about having fun and feeling proud of what everyone could achieve! #UMProud #ESYOlympics

Congratulations to Ms. Baron's 1st-grade class for winning the global reading competition and earning the title "2024 All-Pro Reader Team"! The competition, organized by the Share the Magic Foundation, was called READBowl 2024: The World Championship of Reading. It required Ms. Baron's students to read & log their minutes over the four weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. As a reward for their achievement, UMPS was visited by NFL Super Bowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell - author & Founder/CEO of the Share the Magic Foundation. This afternoon, Malcolm led a Reading Rally where students participated in a high-energy, pep rally-style assembly that included a magic show & read-along. At the Reading Rally, each student received a free copy of his book, "My Very Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World." Malcolm's mission is to inspire young people to read & to provide motivation that reading is the key to achieving one's goals. A BIG thank you to the Share the Magic Foundation, Booster, & the UM Elementary HSA for making this event possible!

We're excited to announce the opening of a Little Library at UMMS! 📚 Thanks to the hard work of Talitha Lovelady from Mrs. Hanssen's 6th-grade Gifted Seminar, this wonderful addition to our Kindness Rocks garden is now available for students to enjoy. The Little Library was Talitha's passion project and was generously supported by a $1,000 grant from the Middle School HSA. Made out of recycled milk jugs, the library is not only environmentally friendly, but it's also durable & long-lasting. During the ceremony, Talitha & her classmates stocked the library with a variety of books, from Elementary level to Young Adult, all stamped with a personalized design. Congratulations to Talitha & everyone involved in making this project a reality! 🎉 Thank you for enriching our school community! #LittleLibrary #UMProud

We had an incredible day at the Special Olympics yesterday! 🏅 Our UM athletes represented us proudly as we joined 11 other school districts at Hatboro-Horsham for a day filled with running, jumping, & throwing events. Before the games, we held a clap-out in all our schools so students could cheer the athletes on as they headed to the competition. Special Olympics is a highlight of our year, and we're so proud of all the students who participated! 🌟 Thank you to those who helped to prepare our students for this special day and to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, & family friends who came out to cheer for our athletes. #SpecialOlympics #UMProud
