This month, UMHS held their "Give Thanks & Win a Pie" event, where students & staff shared thank-you notes with one another. Hundreds of heartfelt notes were received this year, & each one was delivered with care. 💌 Congratulations to the lucky winners who won a pie for themselves & their note recipients! 🥧 Thank you to all who took the time to express their appreciation! 💜 #UMProud #GiveThanks #Gratitude

Earlier this month, the UMHS Diversity Club hosted its Kickoff/Kick Back Event, welcoming students back to school with an evening of cultural exchange, food, & fun! The event aimed to foster community & encourage students to share their cultures & learn about each other in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Attendees enjoyed homemade dishes brought in by students & staff, played games led by the high school Physical Education Department, & enjoyed music curated by DJ Li (UMHS Senior, Lianna Adame). On Constitution Day, 12th-graders in Ms. Loughnane's AP Government class stepped into the shoes of the Founding Fathers! 📜 Each student was assigned a signer of the Constitution and researched their historical figure & the states they represented. Dressed as their characters, students mingled just as the framers might have - discussing the unique challenges & goals of their respective states. After their networking session, students engaged in a college-like seminar to prepare them for next year. They worked independently to answer prompts & then came together to discuss their responses as a group.

Last month, UMHS hosted an orientation to welcome our new 9th-graders & other incoming students. Students & families enjoyed student-led tours and visited information stations across the school. Additionally, they were able to explore an activity fair where they could interact with representatives from various clubs, athletics, & other extracurricular activities. The event wrapped up with Kona Ice, soft pretzels, & an Upper Moreland Golden Bears t-shirt as a welcome gift. 🐻 We hope our 9th-graders are having a great second week of school! #UMProud

Sophia, a Junior at UMHS, organized an incredible Summer Olympics event for students aged 5-21 in the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The day was full of fun as we celebrated everyone's abilities! The event kicked off at the Olympic Museum, where students learned all about the history of the Games. Next was a Pass the Torch relay race, where students demonstrated teamwork & speed. Adapted sports like seated tennis allowed everyone to compete - similar to Wheelchair Tennis in the Paralympics. Students cheered as classmates tried their hand at the long jump & shot put. For the art lovers, there was the option to create Olympics-themed paintings & participate in artistic gymnastics. It was a day all about having fun and feeling proud of what everyone could achieve! #UMProud #ESYOlympics

We had an incredible day at the Special Olympics yesterday! 🏅 Our UM athletes represented us proudly as we joined 11 other school districts at Hatboro-Horsham for a day filled with running, jumping, & throwing events. Before the games, we held a clap-out in all our schools so students could cheer the athletes on as they headed to the competition. Special Olympics is a highlight of our year, and we're so proud of all the students who participated! 🌟 Thank you to those who helped to prepare our students for this special day and to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, & family friends who came out to cheer for our athletes. #SpecialOlympics #UMProud

This month, Todd Scheuren's physics students at UMHS took a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure! Students experienced force, acceleration, momentum, and energy firsthand by collecting data on several rides at the theme park. Once they returned to class, they analyzed and calculated the forces, accelerations, momentum, and energies they had studied throughout the school year. Kingda Ka, for example, propels them at approximately 3Gs of acceleration from 0 to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds! 🤯 Experiencing, measuring, and calculating the extremes of the ride gives students experiential knowledge that adds to their classroom learning. The trip is a terrific way for students to culminate their experience in College Preparatory Physics, Honors Physics, or AP Physics C courses and prepare for the final exam. #UMProud #PhysicsDay #HandsOnLearning
