UMPS Cares Cure AP-4 Fundraiser. Cure AP-4 is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. Patients afflicted with any of the AP-4 HSP genetic disorders generally present with symptoms including global developmental delay, microcephaly, seizures, malformation of the brain, and hypotonia (low-muscle tone). The few patients that learn to walk independently tend to lose that ability a few months or a few years later as they develop hypertonia (high-muscle tone) and muscle spasticity. Of the ~150 confirmed cases of AP-4 HSP in the world at this time, most patients have progressed to loss of mobility in some or all extremities, and are severely intellectually challenged. Because of the extreme rarity of AP-4 HSP, very little research has been conducted to date, and there is no known treatment or cure at this time. Faculty, Staff, and Students are asked to wear Blue & Green the Cure AP-4 colors and donate a $1 to this worthy cause.
School will be closed for faculty, staff, and students from December 23 thru January 1, 2020. School Resumes on Thursday, January 2, 2020 (8:40 AM - 2:55 PM). The Primary School Office will be closed over the break. UMSD Administration Building will be open Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30 and 31 2019.
Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to wear college gear to school on this day. During this year, the students will be learning about perserverance and how this important virtue helps us to reach our goals. It is never too early to think about the possibility of going to college.
