Special Education Mission Statement
The UpperMorelandTownshipSchool District, in partnership with the community, will provide all students with educational opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for excellence and success as critical thinkers, as caring and confident individuals, and as contributing members of society.
The UpperMorelandTownshipSchool District is also committed to the inclusion of all students into the least restrictive environment where they are able to make progress on the goals identified by the IEP team with the appropriate amounts of supports and services.
We believe that all students have the right to be educated in a setting that addresses their individual needs and assists them to achieve their highest levels of social and academic development.
We believe that the education and the safety of all our students is the responsibility of the entire school community.
We believe that all children are of equal worth and should be valued regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, religion or disability.
We believe that every special needs student should have access to the least restrictive environment in which they can be accommodated with supplemental aids and supports.
We believe that class lessons should be designed to address the individual strengths and needs of all students.
We believe that special needs students should receive instruction in skills that will help them to function both socially and emotionally in the workplace and in the community.
We believe that all students should be provided with the supports and services that are needed to help them be successful in all settings and throughout their entire school experience.
We believe that our educators should receive the necessary training and supports to address the strengths and needs of all students.
