Information About The National Elementary Honor Society at the Elementary School

The creation of the Elementary School Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society in 2008 is the fulfillment of a vision of the leadership of the National Association of Elementary School Principals bringing to life a new program to recognize outstanding students in the elementary grades.  Since 1921, the National Association of Secondary Principals provided recognition through chapters of the National Honor Society, but NEHS is more than just an honor roll for the school.  It is designed to provide age appropriate experiences and relevant lessons for its members.  Through NEHS chapter activities that involve members in service to their school and community and the leadership development activities that introduce them to new skills and values, members maintain and extend qualities that earn them selection.

Students are invited to participate and are eligible for selection in this chapter by fulfilling several requirements

  • Candidates must be enrolled in grades 4 or 5.

  • They must have been enrolled for a period of at least one trimester at the Upper Moreland Elementary School,

  • Achieved Advanced in most major academic subjects

  • They must score at Advanced levels on the State Assessment

  • Achieved Outstanding in a majority of the characteristics of the successful learner as listed on the Upper Moreland Elementary School report card.

Then, upon meeting the grade level, enrollment and achievement standards candidates complete an application form and are considered based on their demonstrated personal responsibility, leadership and service.  After the selection process has been completed, students are officially inducted into the National Elementary Honor Society.
