    Mission Statement
Our mission in the Upper Moreland School District is to develop informed, productive, and responsibly engaged citizens. Students will view themselves as members of a culturally diverse, democratic America that is part of a larger global community. Students will be able to think critically and be prepared to assume roles as literate participating citizens of their communities, country and ever-changing world.

The K-12 Social Studies program provides the opportunity for every student to develop into knowledgeable and responsible citizens. Our students need to develop the ability to apply 21st century skills, use critical thinking skills for problem solving, make authentic real world connections, and use technology to collect information, show creativity, and innovation. Purposeful activities based on essential questions provide opportunities to develop higher level thinking skills, integrate concepts across curriculum, and become aware of cultural diversity. The social studies program addresses content standards in the areas of civics and government, economics, geography, and history. The social studies curriculum develops citizens who will be able to participate in a culturally diverse, democratic, and global society, able to analyze and objectively evaluate historical and social issues. The goal of the Social Studies curriculum is to help create historically literate and well informed citizens who actively participate in a democratic society
