    Overview
The K-12 Social Studies program provides the opportunity for every student to develop into knowledgeable and responsible citizens. Our students need to develop the ability to apply 21st century skills, use critical thinking skills for problem solving, make authentic real world connections, and use technology to collect information, show creativity, and innovation. Purposeful activities based on essential questions provide opportunities to develop higher level thinking skills, integrate concepts across curriculum, and become aware of cultural diversity. The social studies program addresses content standards in the areas of civics and government, economics, geography, and history. The social studies curriculum develops citizens who will be able to participate in a culturally diverse, democratic, and global society, able to analyze and objectively evaluate historical and social issues. The goal of the Social Studies curriculum is to help create historically literate and well informed citizens who actively participate in a democratic society
