Puberty-Anatomical, Emotional, and Social Changes in Youth
How the Body Changes
Standards: Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health. Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information, products, and services to enhance health.
Objectives: Students will understand the function of the endocrine system. Students will be introduced to the male and female anatomy and how it relates to puberty.
Procedures: We will start with an introduction on the role of the endocrine system and the function of the pituitary gland. The teacher will lead a discussion on the changes all children experience during puberty (physical, social, emotional). Students will view a co-ed video from the “Always Changing and Growing” program to further explain and explore male and female changes during puberty. I will facilitate a question/answer session to conclude the lesson.
Materials: Text Books, Diagrams, Video
Evaluation: Discussion, Observation, Questions.
