Director of Student Services & Special Education- Dr. Michelle Lutz
Dr. Michelle L. Lutz is excited to begin her 6th year in the Upper Moreland Township School District. Currently, Dr. Lutz serves as the Director of Special Education and Student Services where she brings a passion for working with students at all levels to provide equitable and inclusive services.
Dr. Lutz is passionate about education and lifelong learning. She continues to seek out new opportunities to learn both in formal education settings and from those around her. Dr. Lutz holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Albright College. She continued her attendance at Albright and earned her Masters Degree in Special Education. She then earned a Supervisor of Special Education and Principal K-12 certification through Edinboro University and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Superintendent Letter of Eligibility at Gwynedd Mercy University.
During her career in education, Dr. Lutz has taught K-12 special education, middle years English, math and social studies and served as a special education administrator and principal. She spent a significant number of years in the School District of Philadelphia and received accolades from her superintendents, principals, co-workers, and families. Her work as the principal at Pennypacker Elementary School was featured in a December 2015 article in The Notebook. As a National Board Certified Teacher, Mrs. Lutz serves as a mentor for new National Board Teaching candidates, advises college and graduate level aspiring teachers and serves on the Education Advisory Board at Gwynedd Mercy University.
Dr. Lutz is proud to be a part of the Upper Moreland Township School District team and looks forward to her continued relationship with students, families, community members, teachers, staff members, and administrators. In her spare time, you can find Dr. Lutz on a hike with her husband, Brandon, and children, Jori and Will, or watching her children at their activities.
