PA Governor's Schools of Excellence

The Ninth Period Seminars on December 17 and 19
will be application sessions for interested students.

Sponsored by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence are five-week-long summer residential programs on college campuses committed to meeting the educational needs of artistically or academically talented high school students, including the gifted. 

The programs offer selected students from across the state the opportunity to indulge and inform their creativity and intelligence in the following fields:

Agricultural Sciences
Animal science, plant science, environmental science, veterinary medicine, nutrition and food management, horticulture, forestry, economics, technology
The Arts
Visual arts (including photography), creative writing, dance (ballet, jazz, modern), music (voice, composition, instruments), acting, theater design
Global Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship, business administration, finance, e-commerce, marketing, management, international commerce, economics, world cultures
Health Care
Physicians (multiple specialties), therapies (PT/OT, speech, etc.), pharmacy, sports medicine, public health, mental health, nursing, dentistry, other health care professions

Information, Society & Technology

Systems analysis and design, software and systems engineering, project management, usability engineering, interaction design, digital media, information architecture, networking, information security and privacy, database management, information ethics and policy issues

International Studies
World languages and cultures, intercultural communication, global issues, international political economy, global economics, social anthropology, US foreign policy, global citizenship
The Sciences
Chemistry, physics, molecular biology, mathematics, computer science, astrophysics, material sciences

Teaching
All subject areas, educational processes, educational psychology, human services, leadership

An emphasis is placed on leadership training, and students are encouraged to undertake service projects in local communities. Students are provided with career and college guidance and information about scholarship opportunities.
