All students involved with The Ninth Period Program should have received a newsletter from Mrs. Hanssens in their homerooms on February 5.  Read the student newsletter.

Attached to the student newsletter were two field trip permission slips Permission slips for these field trips must be returned to the High School Main Office by Wednesday, February 13.

College Visitation Trip:  Haverford College and Bryn Mawr College

February also brings the opportunity for students to participate in our Introduction to Mock Trials seminars.  Students involved with Mock Trials will continue to meet every Monday and Wednesday this month to prepare their case.  An except from the case is below:
On May 19, 2007, Kiran Taufique, then a senior at the Norman School, was kidnapped and held for ransom. In the months leading up to the kidnapping, Kiran had become intensely involved with an after-school club called LEX, which stood for Learning Eternally Extolled. The club was funded by the defendant, Jaden Sinclair.

On the night of the kidnapping, a number of LEX club seniors, including Kiran, met at Jaden Sinclair’s home for a party. Kiran had told her parent, Cleo Taufique, that she was going to the Norman School prom and then to an after-prom party at the home of fellow senior, Morgan Kincaid.  Cleo Taufique, who was worried that alcohol would be served at Morgan Kincaid’s, drove by that home near midnight only to find no one there. She then drove to Jaden Sinclair’s home and discovered the party was being held there. Cleo observed the party for an extended period of time through the front window. Cleo, who was very suspicious of Jaden Sinclair’s influence over Kiran and who considered LEX to be a cult, claims she saw the club members taking part in a strange ritual or ceremony of some sort, led by Sinclair. Shortly after the ritual was over, Cleo saw most of the LEX members leave and assumed Kiran would soon follow. Cleo decided to leave Sinclair’s house and wait for Kiran at their home. At some point thereafter, Kiran was tied up, gagged and placed in the trunk of Jaden Sinclair’s car, which was parked in a garage on the property.  Read the entire case online.

As always, if you have suggestions or programs that you think will benefit gifted high school students, please email the information to Mrs. Hanssens

Enjoy the long Presidents Day weekend!
