Duty Assistant Guidelines |
|
1. When a student asks to go to the nurse, always ask the student what the problem is and determine if the problem is a result of an injury on the play area. The school nurse must see any questionable injuries. Also, be sure to follow the First Aide Guidelines that were given to you. Be prepared to provide information to the nurse for an accident report if necessary. 2. Never permit rough play- on the play area and/or on the equipment. Be sure that there are not too many students to safely play on the equipment at one time. If there seems to be on-going problems with specific students regarding rough play, please notify the teacher and/or office (principal/management assistant). 3. Always notify the principal/management assistant immediately if you observe faulty equipment or any dangerous situation on the play area or in the cafeteria. You must keep students away from playing on equipment or areas that you know are unsafe. A work order will be written to repair or clear away any dangerous situations. You will be notified when the problem has been corrected. 4. When using your whistles, check to see that no student is standing near you where the whistle noise could hurt their ears. Whenever possible, use the school-wide quiet signal (raised hand) to get the students’ attention. 5. Any students who are reported to the principal/management assistant must have a white card completed that specifies the problem. Other than serious situations such as fighting or injuries, the white cards are to be given to the classroom teachers. The classroom teacher will evaluate the situation and refer the student to the office if necessary. Also, do not put white cards in the detention room monitors' mailboxes. 6. Duty assistants must not stand together on the play area or in the cafeteria. Each should supervise a specific area. Be visible, readily available and responsive to students who need assistance. Please be “moving about” at all times. 7. Please wear your nametag while on duty. |
