The National Association of Student Assistance Professionals (NASAP) is a non-profit organization. Formerly known as the National Association of Leadership for Student Assistance Programs (NALSAP), the association was founded in 1987 by professionals who were concerned about the problems of student substance abuse, violence, and academic under achievement. In 1998 the membership approved changing the name to the NASAP. Today NASAP represents the interests of thousands of student assistance professionals across the United States.
