ABOUT START    --     NEWS    --     TEACHERS    --     STUDENTS    --     THE TEAM    --     OUTSIDE HELP    --     HOME

The Upper Moreland High School Student Assistance Referral Team (START) provides resources for students at risk.  In cooperation with administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community, the team identifies, intervenes, refers, and follows through with students demonstrating at risk behaviors in the areas of academics, attendance, health, and performance.  These behaviors can indicate a concern in the areas of mental health or substance use.

A LITTLE MORE...

The START core team is made up of administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, a social worker, a nurse and a school psychologist.  Referrals can be made by concerned administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, or community members.  If you need additional information, please contact the high school guidance office at (215) 706-2382.

Did You Know...

Helping professionals (conselors, psychologists, and social workers) are trained to spot the indicators of a student ready to erupt and are constantly on alert to respond as needed.  In the heavily publicized cases of school violence around the country, most of the students involved fit one or more of these indicators.  They must look for signs and then intervene accordingly.  While there are many variables to consider, it is important to recognize that there is a real danger that behavior exhibited by students will be misinterpreted.  Thus, counselors are trained to incorporate ethical decision making into their identification and work with students who exhibit these warning signs.
