Overview
Students will interact with a variety of earth materials, discover physical characteristic that are similar and unique to specific types of materials, and describe shape, texture, color, relative position of objects to each other.

Understand the basic elements of weather and climate

  • Develop a curiosity and interest in the earth materials that make up their environment.
  • Recognize basic landforms including mountains and rivers.
  • Observe and record similarities and differences of earth materials.
  • Develop an awareness of seasons.
  • Observe and describe the uses for materials.
  • Develop an awareness of basic weather elements.
  • Observe and describe weather.
  • Identify and explore globes as models of the earth.
  • Organize and communicate observations through drawing and writing.
  • Acquire the vocabulary associated with earth materials.
  • Acquire skills to use tools and scientific techniques to make better observations.
  • Understand science safety and follow safe practices during investigations
