The schools of the district shall be in session according to a schedule approved on an annual basis by the Board.

The regular school session may be temporarily altered by the Board and/or by the Superintendent (or designee) with subsequent approval of the Board, when such alteration is in the best interest of the district.

The Superintendent may close the schools, delay the opening of schools, or dismiss school early for emergency reasons and to protect the health and safety of students and staff members, and shall prepare rules for the proper and timely notification of concerned persons in the event of such emergency closing and shall in all cases, inform the Board President (if available) or another officer as soon as possible.

The Superintendent shall develop guidelines which allow students to enter schools, and to leave schools, under exceptional conditions so that variances with the normal school schedule may be accommodated.  Such guidelines shall consider such things as inclement weather, family illness, and other similar circumstances.
