Purpose
The Board recognizes that smoking presents a health hazard which can have serious consequences both for the smoker and the nonsmoker and is, therefore, of concern to the Board.

Definition
For the purpose of this policy, "smoking" shall mean all uses of tobacco.

Authority
In order to protect students and staff from the safety hazards of smoking and from an environment noxious to nonsmokers, the Board prohibits smoking by classified employees in school buildings, on school grounds, and on school district vehicles.

Delegation of Responsibility
The Superintendent or designee shall develop procedures to implement this policy which include:

  1. informing all classified employees of the smoking regulations of this district
  2. the instruction on the potential hazards of the use of tobacco.
  3. the adherence to Upper Moreland Township Smoking Ordinance #992.
