| Purpose
The Board acknowledges that students who are being home schooled have
access to certain aspects of the education provided by the district.
Responsibility
The Board authorizes the Superintendent or designee to establish
guidelines for the approval of the home education requests on an
annual basis in compliance with current law.
Authority
- The Board of School Directors recognizes that children residing
in the Upper Moreland School District are permitted by law to comply
with compulsory education laws through private tutoring or through
home school programs (schooling by a parent or guardian or other
person having legal custody of the child), rather than by attending
District schools or other private and/or parochial schools.
- Home education
students (those being educated by private tutor or in a home schooling
program) are not enrolled in the Upper Moreland School District;
therefore, they are not eligible to participate in school district
curricular programs.
- Home education students may participate in the
District’s
standardized testing program and receive the health tests as the
School Code requires. Requests for these services must be
submitted in a notarized affidavit to the Superintendent’s
or designee’s Office.
- The Upper Moreland School District
will lend copies of planned courses, textbooks, and other
non-consumable curriculum materials appropriate to the student’s
age and grade level to the supervisor of a home schooling program
on request.
- The Upper Moreland School District will not award a diploma
at the
completion of a home-education student’s education.
- In the event
that items excluded by this policy are required to be provided
by school law to home education students, then the District will
provide them.
