Title: Homebound Instruction

Purpose 
The Board shall provide individual instruction to students demonstrating such a need due to physical disability, illness or injury, psychological/psychiatric reasons, or as approved by the Superintendent or designee. 

Eligibility 
Applications for individual instruction shall:

  1. be recommended by a physician or a building principal and be approved by the Superintendent or designee and
  2. certify the nature of the illness or disability and
  3. state the probable duration of the need for homebound instruction and
  4. the Superintendent or designee may grant such recommended requests for individual instruction and report each to the Board at its next regular meeting. 

The Board will only provide individual instruction for periods of time expected to last for longer than two weeks, but exceptions may be made as the Superintendent or designee deems advisable and so recommends. 

Program 
The purpose of individual instruction given each student shall be in accordance with the standards established by the Secretary of Education. 

Exception 
The Board authorizes the Superintendent or designee to approve the location and conditions under which homebound instruction may occur.  In addition, the Superintendent or designee is also authorized to withhold homebound instruction when there is a risk to the health of a teacher, a parent or other adult in authority is not at home with the student during hours of instruction, and/or the condition of the student is such as to preclude his/her benefit from such instruction. 

The Superintendent or designee shall develop procedures to guard the privacy of each child placed on homebound instruction.
