Date Adopted: October 9, 1978
Date Reviewed: June 30, 2003

Purpose
To insure continuity and improve quality of instruction, the Board requires lesson plans of all appropriate instructional staff (e.g. teachers, counselors, librarians, etc.).

Responsibility
To facilitate more effective instruction and to prepare for unanticipated circumstances, lesson plans must be prepared on a daily basis at least one week in advance.

Plan books will be inspected and must conform to the guidelines established by this policy and by central-office and building-level administration.

Upon request, copies of lesson plans shall be made available to central-office or building-level administration.

Instructional staff shall make thorough preparation for all lessons on a daily basis and shall prepare written plans reflecting such preparation.  The term "written" shall be defined to include typed, handwritten or computer generated.

Implementation Guidelines
Each lesson shall identify the objective(s) to be covered, with each objective linked to standard(s) consistent with the definition provided in Policy 107.  Each lesson plan shall also include a clear description of the steps required to reach each objective and procedures for measurement of student progress on a daily basis.

Lesson plans are to be developed by each instructional staff member.  Teamed or departmentalized lesson plans may be utilized with the prior approval of building-level administration.

Lesson Plans for Substitutes
Instruction staff members are to provide clear and specific directions for substitutes, the purpose of which shall be to continue the ongoing academic program.

Rosters, seating charts, and originals or copies of lesson plans must remain in the instructional staff member's desk to be available for substitutes at all times.
