Dear Property Owner:

Pennsylvania’s new Taxpayer Relief Act (Act 1 of 2006) became effective in June 2006. According to the new law, designated local and state revenues will be used to provide school property tax relief to qualifying homeowners of owner occupied properties located within school districts. The property tax relief will be made available when your school district receives voter approval to levy a designated new or increased income tax and/or state gaming revenues reach specific amounts stated in law.

In order for you, as a property owner, to qualify and receive a property tax reduction two additional things must occur. (1) File a homestead/farmstead exclusion application and (2) Your application must be approved.

Print out the form, fill it out appropriately and mail to:
                        Montgomery County Board of Assessment Appeals
                        Courthouse PO Box 311
            `           Norristown, PA 19404-0311

Deadline for filing is March 1, 2008

If you do not have access to the Internet, contact the Board of Assessment Appeals and request a copy. Contact information is listed in the last paragraph.

You will receive notification of approval or denial of your homestead or farmstead exclusion application from the county’s Board of Assessment Appeals

If your application is approved and designated local and state revenues are available, your property tax relief will appear as a tax credit on the property tax bill that you receive from the school district. Please remember that you will only receive the property tax relief when state gaming funds are available for distribution.
