3rd Grade General Music Course Description

Popsicle Rhythms

The Third Grade course is designed to apply musical skills as they continue to create and experience music as a classroom community.  Students will be introduced to singing the pentatonic scale in syllables and to sing 3-part rounds.  Students will continue to experience singing partner songs and 2-part rounds. Students will explore playing 3 and 4-note ostinati on barred instruments and will continue to practice and demonstrate the beat in music. Students will explore the science of sound by studying the wind and string instruments.  Students will develop an understanding and appreciation of the differences in music from other cultures and the connections to people, places and time.  The topics in this music course will provide a strong foundation and progressive development for the intermediate school age child to become a life-long participant of music.
