Getting Ready for the Future!

 

6th Grade:

 

ü      Understand your learning style- do you learn better by seeing, hearing, or doing?  Take the Learning Style Quiz on www.educationplanner.org.

ü      Develop good study habits and organizational skills.

ü      Take school seriously and do your best to get good grades.

ü      Do your homework and be responsible.

ü      Keep open communication with your parents about school.

ü      Get involved in the community, sports, or clubs.

 

7th Grade:

 

ü      Start thinking about what you may want to be when you grow up

ü      Understand your personality and explore careers that may fit your personality. Take the career assessment on www.educationplanner.org.

ü      Review career options or general types of jobs that may interest you (for example: business, teaching, counselor, engineer, computers, and doctor). Visit www.educationplanner.org.

ü      Shadow a parent at work if possible.

ü      Keep your grades up and continue to do your homework.

ü      Get involved- join clubs, sports, or community volunteer work.

 

8th Grade:

 

ü      Continue to develop very good study habits and organizational skills.

ü      Learn how to manage your time-prioritize.

ü      Keep doing your homework!

ü      Learn more about your self as a person. Explore your interests, strengths, and abilities. Take the Self-Assessment Quiz on www.educationplanner.org.

ü      Start to think about the type of education you will need beyond high school (for example: college, career school, and/or military.

ü      Ask questions about your high school course selection.

ü      Meet with Ms. Hackett to discuss options and expectations for 9th grade.

ü      Communicate with your parents about course selection, college, technical school, and/or career plans.

ü      Research financial aid with your parents. Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.
